Human Spaceflight, a Personal Experience | Linda Godwin | TEDxMU

One of only 40 women to go to space, Dr. Godwin served as a shuttle crew member on four shuttle missions. She operated the robotic arm, conducted two spacewalks, managed Earth science operations, conducted laboratory research on plant and animal cellular function, and visited the Russian Space Station MIR and the International Space Station.

Dr. Godwin reminds us that despite being over 100 miles above their fellows, astronauts are still humans who must live and work in an isolated community. She also shows us how truly important space travel is to understanding our world, and underscores its importance for the future.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.*
